A famous 1989 NASA study found that indoor plants were able to reduce indoor air pollutants such as benzene and formaldehyde, at least in a controlled lab environment, and more recent research says plants may make you feel less stressed and more creative. This sounds great, so lets see what particular plants can improve the air, your sleep and the look of your room!

1. Lavender

It’s not typically thought of as a houseplant, but lavender can survive indoors under the right conditions. Lavender, is one of the best plants for air purification as well as it is an excellent insect repellent, its aroma relaxes the lungs, which helps you sleep better during night and the aroma also helps you if you suffer from anxiety. This sounds like the best plant, not to mention how pretty it looks!

To take care of the plant, give it bright, direct light for a few hours every day, preferably in a south-facing window, and water when the soil is slightly dry. Don’t overwater lavender, though, or the plant will rot.

2. Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema commutatum)

This plant is perfect for a student as it is very easy to take care of. This plant tolerates low indoor light to the extent that it can survive in a very dark room (great plant for a bedroom right?). Water the plant quite often as it likes moist soil at all times, avoid positioning the plant in a cold place as it is quite sensitive to drafts. As the Chinese Evergreen grows, it develops to remove more and more toxins. This beauty is supper effective at removing formaldehyde, ammonia, xylene and toluene from the air.

Moreover, Aloe does not need much care - just place it in a sunny area and water it once several weeks with a full glass of water.
